Not all content is created equal. Content scoring assigns a business impact score to every piece, so you can invest in what works and sunset what doesn't.
Building a Scoring Framework
Weight three dimensions: engagement (30%), conversion contribution (40%), and SEO value (30%). Each piece gets a composite score from 0-100. Review monthly, and use the data to guide your editorial calendar.
Engagement Score Components
Average time on page, scroll depth, social shares, comments, and return visits. Normalize against your baseline averages. A post that gets 3x your average time-on-page scores high even if absolute pageviews are modest.
Conversion Contribution Score
Track how often each piece appears in conversion paths. Weight by funnel stage: a piece that drives demo requests is worth more than one that drives newsletter signups. Use content attribution to calculate this.
Acting on Content Scores
High score + high traffic = flagship content, keep updating. High score + low traffic = promote more aggressively. Low score + high traffic = improve CTAs and conversion elements. Low score + low traffic = sunset or merge into stronger pieces.
