The Challenge
This Jeddah-based EdTech platform offers professional certification courses and skill development programs aligned with Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030 workforce goals. The 4-person growth team was running campaigns across 5 platforms to reach two distinct audiences: young professionals (18–25) seeking first certifications and mid-career professionals (30–45) looking to upskill.
The challenge was audience segmentation at scale. The same course - say, a data analytics certification - attracted both segments, but through entirely different channels and with different conversion patterns. The team was allocating budget based on overall platform ROAS, which masked dramatic performance differences between segments.
Complicating matters, the Saudi EdTech market was becoming increasingly competitive. Five new platforms had launched in the past year, driving up ad costs by 40%. The Head of Growth needed to find efficiency gains fast - applying startup marketing analytics principles to scale before customer acquisition became unprofitable.
The Solution
The growth team connected all 5 ad platforms and GA4 to Xplainr, then configured audience segment tracking to separate the two target demographics.
- Segment-Level Attribution: Xplainr tracked performance separately for the 18–25 and 30–45 age segments, revealing that channel effectiveness was completely inverted: Snapchat Ads dominated the younger segment (3.8x ROAS) while LinkedIn Ads dominated mid-career professionals (4.1x ROAS). Meta Ads performed moderately for both.
- Course-Channel Fit Analysis: Aria mapped which courses performed best on which channels for which segments. Technical certifications converted best through Google Search (high intent), while creative and business courses performed best through visual platforms (TikTok, Snapchat) that could showcase student testimonials.
- Enrollment Funnel Optimization: Xplainr tracked the full enrollment funnel: ad click → course page → registration → payment → first lesson completion. The team discovered that a 73% drop-off happened between registration and payment, and that adding a WhatsApp follow-up (triggered by Xplainr's alerts) recovered 40% of abandoned enrollments.
- Competitive Bid Intelligence: Aria's anomaly detection flagged sudden CPM increases that correlated with competitor campaign launches, allowing the team to shift budget to less competitive channels in real-time.
The Impact
In 6 months, the platform grew enrollments by 5x while reducing cost per enrollment by 38%. The segment-specific channel strategy was the primary driver: instead of spreading budget evenly across platforms, the team now allocates dynamically based on which segment they're targeting and which course they're promoting.
Snapchat Ads, which the team had been considering dropping due to low overall ROAS, became their top-performing channel for the younger segment once measured correctly. The WhatsApp enrollment recovery workflow alone drove SAR 800K in additional revenue. The platform is now the second-fastest growing EdTech company in KSA, and the growth team credits Xplainr's segment-level analytics as the key differentiator.
